About Birmingham Fire And Rescue Service Department

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) has protected the city of Birmingham, Alabama since 1872 and describes itself as the largest fire department in the state. It is organized into seven divisions dedicated to serving and protecting the city's residents.

The department operates multiple fire stations across Birmingham and staffs them with experienced firefighters and fire paramedics. Alongside fire suppression and emergency medical response, BFRS runs an EMS Education Institute, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, and a free smoke alarm program.

BFRS frames a firefighting career as one where you can "truly make a difference," and actively recruits both Firefighter/Paramedics and Firefighter/EMTs into its ranks.
