Department careers page ↗Center Point Fire District traces its roots to 1965, when local resident John Wallace and a group of concerned citizens pushed to improve fire protection for the community; voters formally created the district on January 1, 1969. What began with a single 1946 American LaFrance engine and a $15,000 annual budget grew through the 1970s, 80s, and 90s into a four-station career department, adding paramedic-level rescue service in 1974 and a full in-house Advanced Life Support EMS program in 1995.
The district's fire suppression rating has climbed steadily over the decades, from an ISO Class 6 shortly after founding to Class 4 in 1987 and Class 1 - the top possible rating - in 2016. A new Fire Administration Building opened in 2004, and the district has continued to modernize its fleet, including a 100-foot ladder truck added with the help of over $1 million in federal grant funding in 2006. By 2020 the department was answering a record 10,076 emergency calls a year.
Today the district is led by Fire Chief Brandon L. Dahlen, its seventh chief, and is governed by an elected Fire Board. Beyond emergency response, the department runs community-facing programs including free smoke detector installation, CPR training, life safety inspections, child safety seat installation, and a Fire Explorers youth program.
