Department careers page ↗Gulf Shores Fire Rescue provides fire suppression, advanced emergency medical response, hazardous materials mitigation, disaster preparedness, and risk-reduction services to residents and the large seasonal visitor population of Gulf Shores. The department runs Advanced Life Support engines out of its fire rescue stations, with roughly 85 percent of uniformed staff holding paramedic licensure, and each station minimally staffed with four firefighters around the clock across three 24-hour shifts.
Beyond structural fire and EMS response, the department operates a distinct Beach Safety Division responsible for water rescue along Gulf Shores' beaches, staffed with full-time Beach Rescue Lieutenants and Lifeguard 2 personnel year-round, supplemented by dozens of seasonal lifeguards during peak season. Lifeguard staff are USLA-certified with medical training ranging from EMR through paramedic and RN level.
The department holds an ISO Public Protection Classification of Class 1, the highest rating available and one held by less than 1% of U.S. fire departments; city officials have noted Gulf Shores is the only Class 1-rated community south of Montgomery, Alabama. Emergency calls are received and dispatched through Baldwin Central 911.
MissionGulf Shores Fire Rescue is committed to mitigating the challenges of fire, medical emergencies, rescue, hazardous materials, disaster preparedness, and risk reduction while protecting our own health.
