Carefree Fire Department

The Carefree Fire Department provides fire, emergency, and medical services to the Town of Carefree, a small residential community in the high Sonoran Desert of Maricopa County, Arizona. The department is operated for the town under contract by Rural Metro Fire, and its staff email addresses and leadership are all Rural Metro personnel.

Operations run out of Fire Station 821 at 37401 N Tom Darlington Road. Because most Carefree homes sit in natural desert terrain with native plants and open lots, the department places heavy emphasis on wildfire readiness, defensible space, and the Firewise USA program, and has helped several local communities earn Firewise USA Certified Site status.

Beyond emergency response, the department runs a range of community-safety programs, including CPR classes, home safety and smoke-alarm inspections, fire hydrant checks, a lock box program, 911 verification, and even rattlesnake removal. The town is rated ISO Protection Class 3 (or Class 9 depending on a home's distance to a station/hydrant).

Carefree does not directly employ its firefighters. Fire and medical services are provided to the Town of Carefree under contract by Rural Metro Fire, and all department leadership and staff shown on the town site carry ruralmetrofire.net addresses. Prospective firefighters and EMTs would therefore apply through Rural Metro Fire (part of Global Medical Response) rather than through the town.
