Department careers page ↗Formed in 1989, Daisy Mountain Fire & Medical grew from a small rural volunteer operation into a career department covering one of the fastest-growing corridors north of metro Phoenix. The district's roughly 250-square-mile response area straddles Maricopa and Yavapai counties and includes a 35-mile stretch of Interstate 17 between Carefree Highway and Badger Springs Road, giving the department a significant highway-rescue and vehicle-extrication workload alongside structural and wildland fire response.
The department operates six staffed fire stations (with a seventh, Station 144, added to expand coverage in the district's fastest-growing areas) and fields regionally deployable Hazardous Materials and Technical Rescue teams as well as a nationally deployable Wildland Response Team. It participates in the Phoenix Regional Automatic Aid System, one of 26 member agencies sharing dispatch and mutual-aid resources across the Valley, which lets crews respond seamlessly across jurisdictional lines with neighboring departments.
Daisy Mountain emphasizes fast response despite its large, semi-rural footprint, citing average response times of four minutes or less. The district continues to invest in new stations and apparatus to keep pace with population growth in communities like Anthem and New River while maintaining its historically volunteer-rooted, community-oriented culture.
