About Gilbert Fire and Rescue

Gilbert Fire & Rescue Department (GFRD) is the municipal fire and emergency service for the Town of Gilbert, Arizona. It is made up of more than 250 dedicated and well-trained members who deliver an all-hazards emergency services model along with a range of community-oriented programs.

Fire service in Gilbert traces back to a volunteer department launched in 1923 that lasted nearly six decades. The town hired its first two paid firefighters in 1985, and Gilbert stood up its own fire department in 1993, growing from a single station that year to roughly a dozen stations serving the community today.

The department holds an ISO Class 1 rating, the highest classification available, reflecting the strength of its emergency response, staffing, and infrastructure. Firefighters here have access to specialty and advancement tracks including a HazMat program, tactical paramedic program, and drone program.
