Department careers page ↗Founded in 1975 as the Green Valley Fire District, this all-hazards department began by serving the retirement community of Green Valley at the base of the Santa Rita Mountains. As the Town of Sahuarita incorporated and grew, the district's coverage area expanded well beyond its original namesake community. Following the 2024 annexation of a large portion of Sahuarita — including areas previously served by a membership-based private provider — the district renamed itself Santa Rita Fire District to reflect the broader region it now protects.
Today the district operates five fire stations across 55 square miles, providing fire suppression, emergency medical response, and non-emergency community services to more than 55,000 constituents. It is governed by a five-member, publicly elected board of directors serving staggered four-year terms.
Beyond emergency response, the district maintains a strong community-services presence, including a nationally recognized Fire Corps volunteer program, a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), smoke-alarm and lock-box installation programs, and CPR/First Aid instruction for residents.
MissionTo provide proactive fire and emergency services with compassion, competence, character, and fiscal responsibility
