The Salt River Fire Department (SRFD) has provided quality safety and emergency services to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community for more than 25 years, earning recognition as one of the top tribal fire departments in the country. The community sits within the greater Phoenix metropolitan area, adjacent to Scottsdale, Arizona.
Led by Fire Chief Tsosie Wood, the department centers its mission on customer satisfaction and community safety, providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, emergency management, and prevention services such as weed abatement and defensible-space programs.
The Salt River Fire Department hires firefighters and officers, including Fire Captains.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age
- Certified EMT (or Paramedic)
- Current CPAT certificate
- Valid Arizona driver's license
Hiring process
- Step 1 - Online exam (National Firefighter Selection Test, NFST)
- Step 2 - Panel interview (structured question-and-answer format)
- Step 3 - Two-day in-person Intern Academy
- Selected Firefighter Recruits attend the SRFD Fire Academy and become Firefighters upon completion
Benefits
Starting salary $71,866 upon academy completion (paramedics earn additional pay), a 48/96 schedule, vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and an Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) pension.
