Department careers page ↗Surprise Fire-Medical Department provides fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and hazardous materials response for the City of Surprise. The department describes its Operations Division as "Always There, Always Ready" to meet the emergent needs of a growing community, and it runs its Training Division out of the Public Safety Building at Surprise Civic Center.
SFMD is accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI), and it maintains a 2024-2027 Strategic Plan that the department says "reflects an ongoing commitment to serving our growing community with the highest level of safety, responsiveness, and professionalism."
Beyond emergency response, the department runs a range of community-facing programs, including a youth-oriented Camp Ignite, a Fire Cadet Program, a Ride-Along Program, station tours and safety-education events, car-seat safety checks, free blood-pressure screenings, a Lockbox Program, and a Treat & Refer EMS service line with its own billing.
