Department careers page ↗Lake Hamilton Fire and Rescue protects the southeast corner of Garland County and parts of northwest Hot Spring County, covering roughly 70 square miles and serving over 10,000 residents. It traces its roots to 1958 as the first volunteer firefighting association in Garland County.
In 2018 voters approved reorganizing the department as the Lake Hamilton Fire Protection District, governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners and funded primarily through dues and assessments collected by the county tax collectors.
Because of its lakefront location, the district is the only local department with fire and rescue boats stationed on Lake Hamilton and Lake Catherine, and it maintains a six-member team of certified Emergency Response Divers. All uniformed personnel are trained to at least the Emergency Medical Responder level, and the department holds an ISO Class 3 rating.
The district runs an active recruiting program and offers a live-in program for firefighters. Prospective members apply through the firefighter application linked on the department's website.
Training and recruitment are coordinated through the department's training officer, and new hires go through a firefighter orientation program and adopt the department's Firefighter Code of Ethics.
