About Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services

Atascadero Fire & Emergency Services is an all-risk agency protecting the City of Atascadero on California's Central Coast. Crews respond to medical emergencies, structure and wildland fires, vehicle collisions, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues, and public assistance calls.

The department fields 23 full-time personnel out of two fire stations, led by a Fire Chief and two Battalion Chiefs overseeing Operations and Community Risk Reduction. Of its 19 firefighters, 13 are certified paramedics, and 12 reserve firefighters round out the roster.

Atascadero covers about 26.7 square miles and serves a population near 30,000, running roughly 3,500 calls annually. Its equipment includes five engines, a ladder truck, a 4x4 ambulance, and a technical rescue unit.

The department traces its roots to a volunteer company formed in 1915, with the first paid department established in 1926. It became a city department in 1979 when Atascadero incorporated.
