Department careers page ↗Established in 1906, the City of Napa Fire Department protects close to 80,000 residents from five stations positioned around the city for rapid response. As an "all risk" department, NFD handles structure fires, mutual aid, and any emergency threatening life, property, or the environment, while also serving as the city's primary advanced life support (ALS) EMS provider since 1978 — every front-line apparatus carries at least one paramedic on duty 24/7.
Beyond day-to-day fire and EMS response, the department maintains a slate of specialized capabilities: a hazmat team with rotating on-duty specialists, a water rescue program with three boats staffed around the clock, wildland-trained firefighters who respond to state and national mutual aid requests, and participation in the county's technical rescue team covering rope rescue, confined space, trench rescue, and shoring. Fire Administration oversees both the Operations and Prevention divisions, and Prevention also handles fire code enforcement, plan review, and public inspections.
Community-facing programs include Fire and Life Safety Day (Napa Fuego), Hands-Only CPR training, car seat installations, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, and a citywide weed abatement program aimed at reducing wildfire fuel loads.
