About Corona Fire Department

Corona Fire Department traces its history to January 26, 1898, when the city (then South Riverside) organized an all-volunteer fire force. The department shifted to a paid-part-volunteer model in 1965 before becoming a full-time professional agency in 1972, and today marks well over a century of continuous service to the community.

The department now fields 118 firefighters operating out of seven neighborhood fire stations plus a headquarters on Public Safety Way, backed by prevention, emergency-management, and professional-support staff. In 2025 crews answered 15,957 total incidents, the large majority medical emergencies, alongside fire, hazardous-materials, technical-rescue, and wildland calls, and Corona's paramedics became the first in California to deliver blood products in the field as part of an ongoing push into advanced pre-hospital care.

Corona Fire also builds its own pipeline of future firefighters: Fire Explorer Post 360 introduces teenagers to the profession through hands-on training and ride-alongs, and the Fire Cadet Program gives fire-academy graduates real operational experience, with many cadets going on to be hired as full-time Corona firefighters.

How to get hired

Corona Fire Department hires firefighters, firefighter/paramedics, and civilian support staff through the City of Corona's online careers portal, which posts sworn and non-sworn fire openings as they become available. The department also cultivates local talent through the Fire Explorer Post 360 youth program and a Fire Cadet Program for fire-academy graduates, several of whom are later hired on as full-time Corona firefighters.

The Fire Cadet Program is open to individuals who have already completed a fire academy, giving them hands-on experience in training, prevention, and emergency management; the department notes many cadets go on to become full-time Corona firefighters. In 2025, 11 academy recruits completed a 240-hour academy with the department.
