Department careers page ↗El Dorado County Fire Protection District is an independent special district serving more than 85,000 residents across 346 square miles along the U.S. Highway 50 corridor on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. Its service area spans elevations from roughly 500 to over 6,000 feet and includes Placerville (the county seat), Diamond Springs, Pollock Pines, Camino, Shingle Springs, Cool, and many surrounding foothill and mountain communities.
The district is governed by a seven-member elected Board of Directors and operates a mix of staffed and reserve fire stations throughout its territory. It provides fire protection, rescue, emergency medical services, fire prevention, and community risk reduction.
El Dorado County Fire participates in the Western Slope El Dorado County Emergency Services Authority to deliver Advanced Life Support ambulance service to the community.

El Dorado County Fire recruits Firefighter-EMT and Firefighter-Paramedic candidates through the statewide Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List (SEL). Candidates must meet FCTC minimum qualifications and be placed on the SEL to be considered, and financial-hardship grants may be available to cover FCTC testing fees.
