Hayward Fire Department

The Hayward Fire Department serves the City of Hayward and the Fairview Fire Protection District in California's East Bay. It operates out of nine fire stations with a fleet that includes nine engines and two aerial ladder trucks, and holds an ISO Class 2 classification.

The department's workforce is fully cross-trained in emergency medicine, with 112 licensed paramedics and emergency medical technicians delivering both fire suppression and EMS. Operations extend beyond structure fires to wildland fire, hazardous materials, aircraft rescue, and water rescue.

Organizationally, the department is built around Administration, Operations (front-line emergency response), and Special Operations, which houses the Fire Marshal, Hazmat, EMS, Training, and Emergency Management functions. It also runs disaster-preparedness and CERT programs and a Firehouse Clinic.

Hayward recently opened a new $82 million Fire Station 6 and Regional Fire Training Center built through a community college partnership, giving the department a modern hub for training and recruitment.
