About Sonoma County Fire District

Sonoma County Fire District was created through a wave of consolidations that began in April 2019, when the Windsor Fire Protection District, Rincon Valley Fire District, Bennett Valley Fire District, and Mountain Volunteer Fire Department combined into a single agency. Over the following three years the district continued to grow, absorbing the Russian River Fire Protection District (formerly Guerneville Fire Protection District, founded 1922) in July 2020, the Forestville Fire Protection District (established 1938) in July 2021, and the Bodega Bay Fire Protection District in July 2022.

Today the district operates out of 11 stations and covers a wide swath of Sonoma County, including the Town of Windsor, Larkfield, Wikiup, Mark West, the Mountain area, Middle Rincon Valley, Bennett Valley, Bellevue, Fulton, the Russian River/Guerneville corridor, and Bodega Bay, plus the surrounding unincorporated areas. The district's leadership includes divisions for EMS, Fire Prevention, and Safety & Training, reflecting the all-hazards, all-risk services typical of a large consolidated California fire agency.

The district describes its work as caring for the safety of its communities and visitors through progressive, professional emergency preparedness and response, a mission shaped by the combined histories of the legacy districts it now comprises.

MissionTo compassionately care for the safety of our communities and our visitors through progressive professional emergency preparedness and response.
