About Woodbridge Fire Protection District

Woodbridge Fire District's roots trace back to 1924, when Sonoma winemaker Samuel Sebastiani converted a Graham Brothers taxicab into the district's first fire engine, a rig later nicknamed "Johnny Popper." The district was formally incorporated in 1942 with about 30 square miles of coverage, then grew substantially through two mergers: consolidating with Forest Lake Fire District in 1996 and with Delta Fire District in 2003, the latter adding roughly 118 square miles and 300 miles of Delta waterway along with a rescue boat.

Today the district covers approximately 197 square miles of northern San Joaquin County, serving Woodbridge, Lodi, Acampo, Forest Lake, Flag City, and Tower Park from four career fire stations staffed around the clock. The service area mixes wildland urban interface, agriculture and dairies, wineries, airports, hotels, and historic downtown Woodbridge with roughly 500 nautical miles of Delta waterway, which the district covers with a specialized apparatus fleet that includes a rescue unit, water tender, a State OES Type 1 engine, a Type 6 brush engine, and a zodiac fire boat. The district responds to about 2,000 calls a year and maintains automatic aid agreements with eight neighboring agencies.

Fire Chief Darin Downey leads a career staff that includes an Operations Chief, an Administrative Officer, three Battalion Chiefs, twelve Captains, six Engineers, and nine Firefighters, who work a 48/96 ABC shift rotation. Line personnel are represented by IAFF Local 1225.

MissionProviding the highest quality fire, rescue, and emergency services to the Woodbridge community in a caring and professional manner.
