Department careers page ↗Boulder Fire-Rescue protects the city of Boulder, Colorado, covering roughly 27 square miles of urban area plus 71 square miles of Open Space and Mountain Parks. The department operates seven strategically positioned stations and handles more than 10,000 emergencies annually.
The department is organized into four divisions: Emergency Services, Community Risk Reduction, Wildland Coordination, and Internal Support & Administration. Its wildland-urban interface responsibilities, including prescribed burning and wildfire preparedness work, reflect the community's location against the Front Range foothills.
Boulder Fire-Rescue is accredited through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) and the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE), placing it among a small group of internationally accredited fire agencies worldwide.

Boulder Fire-Rescue hires firefighters as needed and accepts applications only during designated open periods. Candidates must be at least 18 with a high school diploma or GED, and hold EMT-B certification by the final offer date. New hires earn FF1 and HazMat Ops certifications during the fire academy and must complete FF2 by the end of their first year.
