Department careers page ↗Clear Creek Fire Authority (CCFA) was formed on January 4, 1999, through the consolidation of the municipal fire departments of Empire, Georgetown, Idaho Springs, and Silver Plume along with the Emergency Services District departments of Dumont, St. Mary's, and York Gulch. The unified authority now covers 347.5 square miles of rugged mountain terrain in Clear Creek County, including the I-70 corridor, the Clear Creek River, four 14,000-foot peaks, two ski areas, historic mining sites, and extensive wildland-urban interface.
CCFA operates out of 8 stations staffed by a combination of full-time, seasonal, and volunteer personnel, responding to more than 1,800 emergencies a year for a resident population of about 6,000 that swells with hundreds of thousands of seasonal visitors. Members train across a broad range of disciplines to match the terrain and traffic corridor they protect, including structural and wildland firefighting, vehicle extrication, hazmat response, backcountry rescue, and swift water and ice rescue, with most personnel holding EMT-Basic or EMT-Paramedic certification.
MissionTo proudly honor the citizens, visitors and neighbors of the CCFA fire district by providing responsive, compassionate and effective services before, during and after an emergency to minimize the loss of life, property and environment.
CCFA's posted opportunities are volunteer positions: Volunteer Firefighter and non-emergency Community Volunteer. The authority runs an application, testing, and interview process to select qualified candidates, with new recruitment programs launched periodically throughout the year.
