About Pueblo Fire Department

Pueblo Fire Department operates five divisions — Administration, Operations, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Prevention, and Training — under Fire Chief Barbara Huber, delivering fire suppression, rescue, hazmat mitigation, medical response, and fire-safety education to the City of Pueblo. The department has held accreditation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) since August 2008, making it the fourth Colorado department to reach that status, and it maintains a strategic plan built around continuous improvement.

Operationally, the department runs 11 fire stations around the clock across three suppression shifts (A, B, and C), staffing 11 Advanced Life Support engines, two ladder companies, two incident command chief units, a hazardous materials unit, two four-wheel-drive brush trucks, a rescue boat and raft, an F550, and an airport crash unit. About 160 uniformed personnel deliver this coverage, and the department contributes members to Colorado Task Force 1, a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue team. Medical calls dominate the workload — over 70% of the department's more than 24,000 annual responses are medical or trauma incidents — and nearly 60% of personnel hold ALS certification at the EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic level, with the department itself serving as a state-authorized continuing education center for EMT-through-paramedic training.

Beyond day-to-day suppression and EMS, crews train in hazardous materials response at the Technician level and in rope/high-angle, swift-water, confined-space, and trench technical rescue disciplines, supported by a dedicated Honor Guard unit.

MissionWe will provide the highest level of Fire and Rescue services to City of Pueblo and our community following laws, safety practices, and professional standards.
