Department careers page ↗Security Fire Department got its start in 1956 as the all-volunteer Security Village Volunteer Fire Department, operating out of a small carpenter shop on Security Blvd with a single donated 1941 fire truck. Nearly seven decades later, the district has grown into a combination department covering more than 50 square miles south of Colorado Springs, running four stations that house engines, a ladder truck, a rescue-pumper, paramedic ambulances, and wildland brush trucks.
Today the department blends 50-plus career firefighters and officers with roughly 23 active volunteers to deliver structural and wildland firefighting, fire inspections and permitting, and EMS transport across the Security-Widefield community, backed by a Class 2 ISO rating that reflects the district's fire suppression capability.
Security Fire Protection District says it is "always accepting new applications" for both career and volunteer positions. Career applicants submit a Career Staff Application to the Logistics/HR contact, while volunteer applicants apply separately; a 2026 pay scale document is posted for reference. All applicants must consent to background checks with past employers and certification agencies, and employment is at-will under Colorado law.
