About Timberline Fire Protection District

Timberline Fire Protection District serves a rugged stretch of Colorado's Front Range roughly 30 miles from the Denver and Boulder metros, running from Nederland in Boulder County south to Black Hawk and Central City near I-70. Terrain climbs from about 6,000 feet in the foothills to over 13,000 feet at the Continental Divide.

The district is a combination agency made up of career, part-time, and volunteer personnel, roughly 50 members in all, with volunteers forming the majority. Crews run an all-hazards mix of structure fires, wildland fires, EMS, backcountry rescues, and motor vehicle collisions.

The district protects about 6,000 year-round residents, a number that swells to 15,000-20,000 with seasonal visitors drawn to the mountain communities and casino towns. Nine stations house roughly two dozen pieces of apparatus, and most of the coverage area carries an ISO Class 5 rating.

Wildfire mitigation is a visible part of the mission: the district offers free home ignition zone property assessments, smoke and carbon monoxide detector programs, and a Reverse 911 emergency alert system for district residents.

MissionThe mission of the Timberline Fire Protection District is to utilize resources efficiently to provide emergency services for the benefit of citizens and visitors to the district while maintaining the safety and security of our members.
