About City Of Norwich Fire Department

The Norwich Fire Department is a career department organized into five divisions — Administration, Operations, Fire Prevention and Investigation, Training and Safety, and Emergency Management — that together handle fire suppression, EMS, code enforcement, public education, and citywide emergency preparedness. The department operates out of Fire Headquarters on North Thames Street, home to administration, the Fire Marshal's Office, the shift-supervising Battalion Chief, and the Training Division, alongside the Greeneville Fire Station (Engine 2) on North Main Street.

Beyond emergency response, the department runs an active fire-prevention program, including life safety code inspections, fire investigations, permitting, and public fire education, and it supports Norwich's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and evacuation-shelter planning as part of its Emergency Management division. Chief Sam Wilson has emphasized building relationships with local schools and organizations to extend fire safety education beyond emergency calls.

MissionThe members of the Norwich Fire Department are dedicated to serve the people of the City of Norwich. We will provide the highest level of professional response to fire, medical, and environmental emergencies and disaster, either natural or man-made. We strive to create a safer community through fire prevention, code enforcement and education for the public. Our goal is to provide twenty-four hour emergency service for the protection of life and property within a four minute response time frame with all necessary forces assembled, focused, and mission ready.
