The department fields 361 career personnel staffing 17 fire companies (11 engine companies, 5 ladder companies, and 1 tactical unit) out of 12 stations, with suppression crews working 24-hour shifts across four rotating platoons split between two geographic fire districts, each led by a Deputy Fire Chief.
Beyond emergency response, HFD organizes its work into an Emergency Services Division (fire suppression, EMS, technical rescue, hazmat) and a Support Services Division covering training, fire prevention, communications/technology, apparatus maintenance, and administration. The Fire Chief also serves as the city's Director of Emergency Management.
