About Stamford Fire Department

The Stamford Fire Department is a career municipal fire service protecting the city of Stamford, Connecticut. It operates out of nine fire stations spread across the city's neighborhoods, from the Central Fire Station headquarters downtown to outlying stations in Shippan Point, Glenbrook, Springdale, Turn of River, and Westover.

As a coastal Fairfield County city, Stamford presents a mix of dense urban, residential, and waterfront risk. The department maintains specialized capabilities including SCUBA/water rescue teams, a marine unit for waterborne response, a hazardous materials task force, technical rescue, and vehicle extrication. Mutual aid agreements extend response into neighboring Connecticut and New York communities.

The department is organized into divisions covering Line operations, Training, Mechanical, the Fire Marshal's office, and 911/Communications, overseen by a Board of Fire Commissioners. Its firefighters are represented by the Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 786.

MissionOur primary mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of all Stamford residents and visitors.
