Department careers page ↗Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District covers 72 square miles at the southern edge of Lee County, Florida, on the Gulf Coast, serving an estimated 50,000 year-round residents that swells toward 90,000 during the winter season. The District traces its roots to the Bonita Springs Volunteer Fire Department, organized on October 2, 1950, and funded in its early years through barbecues, a minstrel show, and a door-to-door membership drive. On May 31, 1965, it was reorganized under Florida law as the Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District.
Growth along US 41 and I-75, along with expanding coastal and high-rise development, drove the District to build out from its original Station One (rebuilt in 1985) to a network of seven stations, including a dedicated marine-response station on Hickory Island rebuilt after Hurricane Ian. The District is governed by an elected five-member Board of Fire Commissioners and aims to be on scene within six minutes of a call, responding to structure fires, EMS calls, and a wide range of all-hazards emergencies.
