About Hollywood Fire Rescue & Beach Safety Department

Hollywood Fire Rescue & Beach Safety has grown tremendously since its 1924 founding, when it operated with just 19 firefighters and two pieces of apparatus. Today it is a modern, full-service emergency-response organization with nearly 300 personnel — including 260 sworn firefighters and 20 frontline apparatus — deployed across six strategically located stations and responding to nearly 30,000 calls for service each year. About 103 civilian staff support the department, including 88 Beach Safety professionals, three apparatus mechanics, and 16 technical and administrative staff.

In 2001 the department earned an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Class 1 rating — a distinction held by less than 1% of departments nationwide. Having evolved from a fire-suppression department into a full-service fire rescue and beach safety organization, it provides emergency medical services and special operations including hazardous-materials response, technical rescue, fire inspection and investigation, public education, and beach safety.
