Department careers page ↗Jackson County Fire Rescue has served as the county's fire suppression and Advanced Life Support EMS provider since it was founded on December 1, 1974. Operating out of six stations spread across the county's 955 square miles, the department is staffed by career firefighters who are all certified Firefighter II and either EMT or Paramedic, supplemented by an auxiliary corps of EMTs and paramedics.
Crews work 48-hour shifts followed by 96 hours off, rotating across three working shifts at each station. Beyond emergency response, the department operates a Community Paramedic Program that brings routine health assessments, medication management, chronic disease education, fall-prevention home safety checks, and free Narcan distribution directly to residents.
The department maintains mutual aid agreements with 14 municipal and volunteer fire departments throughout the county, reflecting the collaborative, rural-coverage model needed to protect a large, sparsely populated service area.
