Department careers page ↗North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District was created on January 1, 2015, through the voluntary merger of two long-standing special independent districts, North Naples Fire Control and Rescue District and Big Corkscrew Island Fire Control and Rescue District, after voters in both districts approved the consolidation in a November 2014 referendum. The merged district retains the original North Naples and Big Corkscrew Island service delivery areas, each now backed by the combined firefighting and life-safety resources of the whole district, and operates under a unified charter (Chapter 2015-191, Laws of Florida) as a special independent district under Chapter 189, Florida Statutes, separate from Collier County government.
NCFR describes itself as an "All Hazards Response Agency," running ten fire-rescue stations across 264 square miles of coastal beach, urban and rural residential, and undeveloped wildland. Beyond structural firefighting and advanced life support EMS (in place since 2011), the district fields a Technical Rescue Response Team affiliated with SW Florida Urban Search & Rescue Task Force 6, a Dive Rescue Team, a Marine/Boat team operating on the Gulf of Mexico, a State of Florida-recognized Hazardous Materials Response Team, and Air Rescue 1, operated jointly with the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
The district employs more than 280 personnel, including firefighter/EMTs and paramedics represented by IAFF Local 2297, life-safety and prevention staff, and administrative personnel covering finance, HR, IT, community education, fleet, facilities, logistics and training. Its Life Safety & Fire Prevention Division also serves as the Authority Having Jurisdiction for the neighboring Immokalee Fire Control District under an interlocal agreement.

Why should I call 911 instead of a fire station directly?
You should always call 911 for any emergency. North Collier Fire does not self-dispatch its units; all fire, EMS, and sheriff dispatching in Collier County is coordinated centrally by the Collier County Sheriff's Office so the closest appropriate units can respond. Calling a station directly may go unanswered if crews are out on another call.
What is the district's ISO Public Protection Classification?
North Collier Fire Control and Rescue District has achieved a Public Protection Classification (PPC) Score of 2 for properties within about five road miles of a fire station. Properties farther than that are rated a 10.
Why does a fire engine sometimes respond to a medical call?
A fire engine may arrive first if it is closer to the scene than a Collier County EMS ambulance. All NCFR engines are staffed with one or more paramedics who can deliver both basic and advanced life support, just like Collier County EMS paramedics.
Does NCFR help residents with smoke alarm batteries?
Yes. North Collier Fire can assist with smoke-alarm battery changeouts by calling (239) 597-3222; this assistance is limited to battery changeout only, and a malfunctioning alarm unit itself requires a handyman or electrician.
