About North Port Fire Rescue District

North Port Fire Rescue District is a career, all-hazards agency that provides fire suppression, advanced life support (ALS) emergency medical response, technical rescue, fire prevention, and emergency management for the City of North Port and neighboring unincorporated areas of Sarasota and Charlotte counties under interlocal and mutual aid agreements. Established by city ordinance in 1983 as the North Port Fire and Ambulance District, the agency was later renamed the North Port Fire Rescue District and today runs six fire stations, including one shared with Sarasota County Fire Department, staffed with engines, aerial trucks, tankers, and ALS rescue units.

The district has earned an ISO Public Protection Classification of 1/1Y, placing it among the top one percent of fire departments nationally, and fields a State of Florida Type II Light Technical Rescue Team trained in rope, confined space, structural collapse, trench, and vehicle/machinery rescue. Command staff describe North Port as a growing, progressive department — built for six stations today with room to expand toward thirteen as the city grows — with a close-knit, family-oriented culture, an active Honor Guard, and a dedicated new six-story training and burn tower for in-house skills development.
