About Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue

Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue traces its roots to 1953, when Charles Frey organized the West Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department to protect what was then an unincorporated area of Broward County. The Village of Pembroke Pines incorporated in 1960, and the department transitioned from volunteer to full-time professional staffing in the early 1970s, hiring its first three career firefighters in 1973. Over the following decades the department expanded rapidly alongside the city's growth, adding stations, acquiring its first ladder truck in 1981, and converting all frontline units to Advanced Life Support capability by the mid-2000s.

Today the department operates six fire stations plus a dedicated training facility, staffed by 198 combat personnel providing fire suppression, fire prevention and inspections, plan review, fire investigation, public education, disaster management, technical and water rescue, and emergency medical transport across the city. The department has held a Class 1 ISO Public Protection Classification, a rating achieved by only a small percentage of departments nationwide, and since 2014 has served as the South Region Public Safety Answering Point for Broward County. Fire Chief Marcelino Rodriguez has led the department since 2022.

MissionThe Pembroke Pines Fire Department is dedicated to the preservation of life, property, and the environment.
