About Bulloch County Fire Department

Bulloch County Fire Department protects the roughly 668 square miles of the county that fall outside the Statesboro city limits. It was created in 2008 by consolidating eight independent volunteer departments under a single county organization, hired its first full-time chief that same year, and brought on its first paid firefighters in FY2020.

Today the department runs as a combination agency, blending career and volunteer personnel. In FY25 it employed 30 full-time and 12 part-time career staff alongside 52 volunteer suppression and support members, putting about 22 personnel on duty each day across 24/48-hour shifts.

The department operates 16 stations countywide, six of them staffed career stations (Brooklet, Portal, Register, Clito, Highway 67, and the County EMS Headquarters). Its fleet includes 19 engines, 7 tankers, 2 ladder trucks and a brush truck. In FY25 crews answered 4,269 calls with an average first-engine response time of about 10 minutes.

An all-hazards agency, the department added rescue services and first-responder medical oversight in 2014 and maintains a mutual-aid agreement with the Statesboro Fire Department.
