Department careers page ↗Camden County Fire Rescue is the primary all-hazards emergency response agency for Camden County, Georgia, an area that stretches across 613 square miles along the Georgia coast and includes the cities of Kingsland, St. Marys, and Woodbine as well as unincorporated communities such as Waverly, White Oak, and Cumberland Island. The department operates twelve strategically located fire stations to keep response times low across a large, mostly rural jurisdiction, and it holds the largest Class 4 ISO rating in the country for a department relying on rural water supplies, reflecting a significant capital and training investment given the lack of municipal hydrant coverage in much of the county.
Beyond structural firefighting, the department runs community-facing prevention programs, including a smoke alarm assistance program, free home fire safety inspections, an AED lending program, and CPR classes. It has also taken a lead role in wildfire mitigation, partnering with the Georgia Forestry Commission and the U.S. Forest Service on a Community Wildfire Protection Plan covering the county's cities, the Kings Bay Naval Base area, the Cumberland Island National Seashore, and several unincorporated communities exposed to wildland fire risk.
