About Decatur County Fire & Rescue

Decatur County Fire and Rescue traces its roots to 1962, when it was established on ground that is now part of the Decatur County Industrial Park north of Bainbridge along US Highway 27. The department's main station sits in the Industrial Park, and its response area covers 623 square miles of rural southwest Georgia, serving an estimated 30,000 citizens.

The department is built as a career-volunteer hybrid: a full-time staff of 15 firefighters plus administrative personnel is backed by a volunteer network of more than 100 members operating out of nine outlying stations — Brinson, Attapulgas, Fowlstown, Recovery, 97 South, Faceville, Mt. Pleasant, Kindrick, and Blackjack. Together they deliver structural fire suppression, EMS/first responder medical care, water and wilderness search and rescue, high-angle rescue, vehicle and aircraft extrication, and hazardous materials response across the county.

Beyond emergency response, the department is active in the community, running fire safety education programs in local schools, hosting firehouse tours, taking part in the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, and organizing food and toy drives for families in need.
