About Glynn County Fire Department

Glynn County Fire Rescue (GCFR) protects roughly 86,000 residents across 420 square miles of unincorporated Glynn County, Georgia, from the coastal barrier islands to inland communities near Brunswick. The department runs a combined fire-EMS model, staffing engines, aerial apparatus, water tenders, ALS ambulances, an aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) unit at Brunswick Golden Isles Airport, and an inflatable rescue boat for water incidents.

Beyond structural firefighting, GCFR firefighters and medics handle hazardous materials response, technical rescue, beach/water rescue, critical incident stress management, and participate in the Georgia Search and Rescue Quick Response Team, along with small unmanned aircraft (drone) support for incident operations. The department maintains automatic and mutual aid agreements with the City of Brunswick and Jekyll Island fire departments and provides advanced life support service into Brunswick.

GCFR holds an ISO Class 2 rating, placing it among the top four percent of fire departments nationally for fire protection capability, a distinction that can lower homeowners' insurance premiums for residents. An eighth station is fully operational and a ninth is under construction, expected to open in late 2026.
