Department careers page ↗Lumpkin County Emergency Services (badged Lumpkin County Fire/EMS) is the county's primary fire suppression and emergency medical provider, headquartered at Station 1 on Pinetree Way in Dahlonega. The department runs as a combination force, pairing career firefighter/paramedics with a network of volunteer first responders who supplement ambulance crews in the county's more rural reaches.
Coverage is organized across nine numbered stations stretching from downtown Dahlonega out to Shoal Creek, Yahoola, Chesterra, Millcreek, Nimblewill, Frogtown, Auraria, and the county airport at Camp Wahsega. Fire engine crews are routinely dispatched alongside paramedic-staffed ambulances on medical and crash calls, managing scene hazards like fuel leaks and vehicle stabilization while paramedics treat patients. Homes and businesses within five road miles of any of these stations carry an ISO rating of Class 4.
Operations sit within the county's broader Emergency Services division, which also houses the county's Emergency Management Agency and a separate Fire Marshal's Office responsible for inspections, plan review, and fire investigations. Day-to-day department leadership includes an EMS Division Chief and a Deputy Chief of Operations/Training, with battalion chiefs assigned to each of the department's rotating shifts.
MissionIt is our mission that the men and women of Lumpkin County Emergency Services provide rapid response, the best in quality emergency care, and protection of life and property to the citizens as well as our visitors of Lumpkin County, while always being professional.
Fire/EMS openings are posted through Lumpkin County's central employment portal alongside all other county departments; there is no separate fire-recruitment microsite. At the time of this review no Fire/EMS positions were listed as open on the portal.
Why is a fire engine dispatched to a motor vehicle accident along with the ambulance?
Paramedics on the ambulance assist injured persons while firefighters on the fire engine look for hazards such as fuel leaks and may disconnect batteries, disable airbags, or assist with traffic control.
Why is there more than one apparatus dispatched to a medical call?
Some medical calls require more than the two paramedics who ride in the ambulance. Depending on the severity of the illness or injury, more team members may be requested or cancelled, and in some areas of the county volunteer first responders arrive in their personal vehicles to assist ambulance personnel.
