Department careers page ↗Murray County Fire Department operates as a combination department, pairing full-time career firefighters with volunteer personnel who staff a network of stations spread across the county, headquartered on G.I. Maddox Parkway in Chatsworth. The department also houses the county's Emergency Management Agency under the same leadership, reflecting its dual role in day-to-day fire suppression and broader disaster coordination for the community.
Beyond emergency response, the department runs fire prevention and public education programs, maintains a dedicated training center, and sends personnel out to schools and community events on request. Crews respond not only to fire calls but also assist on EMS calls, since all personnel are trained to provide at least basic life support alongside county ambulance units.
The department also administers local burning regulations, working with the Georgia Forestry Commission on burn permits, and maintains ties to state-level fire service resources including the Georgia Fire Academy and Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council for training and certification.
