The department traces its start to 1986, when Station #7 in Good Hope opened with a single engine, a tanker, and 20 volunteers to serve then-unprotected rural areas.
The agency's first permanent staff arrived in 1987, and it was renamed from Walton County Fire Department to Walton County Fire Rescue in 2006 to reflect its broadened mission.
