Department careers page ↗Warner Robins Fire Department has grown from a single station and ten firefighters hired by founding Chief Ernest W. Wood in 1959 into a 140-member career department covering 38 square miles and roughly 82,000 residents in central Georgia. The department has held an ISO Fire Suppression Rating of Class 2 since 2017 and opened a dedicated training center in 2019 to support in-house suppression and skills training.
Beyond structural fire response, crews handle a call load that is overwhelmingly medical in nature, and maintain special operations capability in dive rescue, Georgia Search and Rescue (GSAR), wildland firefighting, and an honor guard. A three-shift schedule keeps roughly 32 firefighters on duty at any time out of seven engine companies, three aerials, two brush trucks, and a command vehicle. Since 1989 the department has also raised roughly $3.4 million for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through community fundraising.
Fire Chief Albert S. Wright took over in August 2024 after more than a year without a permanent chief, and has since introduced a formal career-development ladder from entry-level firefighter through the chief's office, added new apparatus including a ladder truck, and restructured field command from three battalion chiefs to six to split the city into North and South Battalions.
MissionTo serve the community with the highest degree of professionalism for life safety and property conservation.
