Established in 1887, the Blackfoot Fire Department is responsible for delivering emergency medical services, fire protection, and rescue across more than 1,500 square miles of property and land in Bingham County, Idaho. The department consists of 27 full-time employees along with the Fire Chief, a full-time Office Administrator, and a part-time assistant, maintaining emergency staffing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Each of the three shifts is comprised of licensed paramedics and state-certified EMTs, as well as Idaho State Certified Structural and Wildland firefighters, operating from two stations.
Blackfoot hires firefighters who are licensed paramedics/EMTs and Idaho State Certified structural and wildland firefighters.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of 18 years of age
- Valid Idaho driver's license
- Resident of the Blackfoot-Snake River Fire District
- Pass a Modified Firefighters Combat Challenge
- Pass an oral board interview
- Pass a drug test and background check
Volunteers may become 'Paid Call' firefighters after successfully completing Firefighter I training. The department also runs a Blackfoot Fire Explorers program for youth ages 15-20. Qualified veterans receive hiring preference under Idaho Code.
