Department careers page ↗Nampa Fire Protection District traces its roots to September 1891, when the city built its first fire station, a single-story wooden building known as the "Engine House." That original Station #1 still stands and now houses a small department history museum on its second floor, preserving records from firefighters like Rick D. Bergemann and L.T. Lessinger's early-20th-century memoir "Through the Smoke."
More than a century later, NFPD has grown into a 110-person department covering roughly 100 square miles and 125,000 residents across urban, suburban, industrial, and rural areas of Nampa. Six fire stations, a training division, and an administrative headquarters support a fleet that includes four Type 1 engines, a 100-foot aerial platform truck, a 75-foot ladder truck, a squad, a Type 5 brush rig, and a technical rescue team. Frontline engines carry certified paramedics, giving the district Advanced Life Support capability as part of the Treasure Valley Emergency Medical Services System, alongside structure fire, wildland fire, vehicle extrication, hazardous materials, and technical rescue response.
The department operates under the guiding vision of "Excellence - Service - Strength in Unity," led by Fire Chief Kirk Carpenter with Deputy Chiefs over Operations and Logistics, a Fire Marshal's prevention bureau, and a Training Division based at the district's Railroad Street training grounds. NFPD also runs an active community outreach program, including station tours, ride-alongs, CPR classes, smoke alarm replacement, and an AED loaner program.
