Department careers page ↗The Franklin Park Fire Department traces its roots to 1903, when the village's firefighting operation transitioned from a volunteer bucket-brigade outfit—summoned by the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad whistle—into a professional department under founding Fire Chief Andrew Ansberg. More than a century later, under current Fire Chief Lucas Palermo, the department runs out of Fire Station 1 on Atlantic Street and provides fire suppression, fire investigation, fire prevention, public education, and disaster preparedness services to the village.
Beyond structural firefighting, FPFD staffs two Advanced Life Support ambulances around the clock and partners with Loyola EMS for ongoing paramedic training, transporting patients to area hospitals including Gottlieb, Elmhurst, and Loyola. The department also fields three specialty teams—Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue (rope, high-angle, trench, confined-space, and collapse rescue), and Surface Water Rescue—and participates in MABAS Division 20, a mutual-aid coalition of 17 neighboring communities, with members who train alongside the State Urban Search and Rescue Team.
MissionWe, the members of the Franklin Park Fire Department, are an organization of dedicated professionals committed to serving and protecting the lives and property of our community.
The Franklin Park Fire Department does not maintain a dedicated firefighter recruitment portal; sworn positions are posted, when available, on the Village of Franklin Park's general employment opportunities page alongside other village job openings.
