About Joliet Fire Department

The Joliet Fire Department serves Joliet, Illinois, a large city in Will County southwest of Chicago. Formally organized by city ordinance in 1853, it grew from a volunteer "Bucket Brigade" into a modern career department.

Today the department staffs nine stations and an administration office with roughly 223 sworn personnel and four civilian staff. Members log more than 30,000 hours of training each year.

Beyond fire suppression, Joliet runs an Advanced Life Support EMS division, a hazardous materials team, a technical rescue team, and a dive/water rescue team, and participates in regional MABAS 15 mutual-aid response. Its technical rescue capability, shared with Lockport and Bolingbrook as the "Green Team," carries a Level A state task-force designation.

MissionTo protect and enhance the quality of life in the community through education, active intervention, innovative prevention, and professional response.
