Department careers page ↗Peoria Fire Department serves the city of Peoria in central Illinois, delivering fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous material mitigation, fire prevention, and arson investigation. Organized in 1875, it is the oldest downstate fire department in the state, tracing its roots to an 80-member, largely volunteer force.
Today the department fields more than 180 commissioned suppression personnel operating out of 12 fire stations spread across the city. Its fleet includes 12 fire engines, 4 aerial trucks, and 1 rescue squad, and it responds to over 20,000 incidents each year.
The department is organized into four divisions: Fire Administration, Fire Operations, Fire Training, and Fire Prevention.
