About Jeffersonville Fire Department

Jeffersonville Fire Department was founded in 1871 and has provided fire protection to the city on the Ohio River across the bridge from Louisville, Kentucky for more than 150 years. Its ranks are made up of full-time, professional firefighters represented by International Association of Firefighters Local 558.

JFD provides fire suppression, heavy rescue, non-transport emergency medical care, and HAZMAT response, and the department responds to all water rescue emergencies within its service area. The department serves approximately 52,000 residents across 30 square miles from five fire stations, including its headquarters at 2204 E 10th Street.

Beyond emergency response, JFD runs public fire-safety education, including Fire Prevention Week programming each October and the Safety Town facility next to Station 2 on 10th Street, where local children learn fire, electrical, water, and pedestrian safety. Firefighters also take part in community events such as neighborhood National Night Out gatherings.
