About Michigan City Fire Department

Michigan City Fire Department (MCFD) provides fire suppression, emergency medical response, hazardous materials response, and disaster response for the city of Michigan City, Indiana. The department operates out of a headquarters at 2510 East Michigan Boulevard alongside four fire stations located throughout the city.

Beyond emergency response, MCFD runs an active fire prevention and community risk reduction program: the Fire Marshal's office conducts annual fire code compliance inspections for businesses, reviews permits for events, amusement rides, fireworks, and temporary structures, and identifies high-risk areas for targeted outreach. The department's Community Education Division offers free CPR training, a smoke alarm installation program for eligible households, school and business fire safety education, and a special needs registry to help responders prepare for residents who may need extra assistance in an emergency.

The department is led by a Fire Chief supported by deputy chiefs of operations and administration, a fire marshal, a training officer, and a public information officer.
