About Vanderburgh County Fire Department

Vanderburgh County Fire Department was formed in 2025 through the merger of two long-standing township departments: Scott Township Fire Department, established in 1956, and German Township Fire Department, established in 1959. The merger combined personnel, apparatus, and facilities to continue a legacy of fire and EMS service across the Scott Township Fire Territory.

The department covers Scott Township, Armstrong Township, German Township, and the Town of Darmstadt, an area spanning more than 100 square miles northeast of Evansville. It operates as a combination department, staffing five stations with a mix of full-time career personnel, part-time employees, volunteer firefighters, and civilian paramedics.

VCFD provides fire suppression, advanced life support medical treatment and ambulance transport, public education, and fire inspections. It is the only fire department in the local Tri-State area to run its own ALS ambulance service alongside fire suppression.

MissionWe provide fire protection, medical services, public education, inspections, and aid in other types of emergencies for persons and property in the area of the Scott Township Fire Territory
