About Anchorage Middletown Fire And Ems

Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS (AMFEMS) is a Kentucky fire protection district serving east Louisville and parts of Jefferson, Oldham, and Shelby counties. It took its current shape through a multi-year consolidation: Anchorage and Middletown merged in July 2018, with Eastwood, Harrods Creek, and Worthington joining in July 2019.

The department covers nearly 100 square miles and roughly 130,000 residents, including major corridors such as I-71, I-265, and I-64 plus about seven miles of the Ohio River. It runs both fire protection and advanced life support EMS response and transport out of 11 stations.

With around 255 members, AMFEMS describes itself as the third-largest fire department in Kentucky and the second-largest with integrated EMS. Its stated core values are Integrity, Service, Pride, Respect, Responsibility, and Empowerment.

MissionCommitted to serving the dynamic needs of our community by utilizing our core values in a professional and compassionate manner

How to get hired

AMFEMS hires firefighter/EMTs primarily through its Fire Trainee Academy, recruiting qualified candidates who then earn their Kentucky 400-Hour Firefighter and Nationally Registered EMT certifications in-house. No prior EMT or fire certification is required to apply, though candidates must hold a valid CPAT card before or during the hiring process. Applications are submitted online through the department's Paycom portal.

The selection process moves through a physical ability test, the Firefighter Aptitude and Character Test (FACT), interviews, and background checks, medical exams, and polygraph before a job offer and academy enrollment. HR can be reached at hr@amfems.org.
