About Fern Creek Fire Protection District

Fern Creek Fire Protection District, doing business as Fern Creek Fire & EMS, is governed by an elected Board of Trustees and delivers fire suppression, emergency medical services, and technical rescue capability to the Fern Creek area of Louisville. The department describes its mission as responding to the community in times of need while educating the public and working to prevent future disasters.

The district organizes its work around several core functions: firefighting, emergency medical services, technical rescue, community involvement, and support services (maintenance, administration, and a fire prevention bureau). It also highlights a dedicated focus on member mental health and wellness alongside its emergency response mission.

FCFEMS runs its own in-house training pipeline, including a Fire Academy that builds recruits from the ground up and an EMT Academy operated in partnership with Life-Savers Inc., along with an extensive technical rescue training program and tuition reimbursement for members pursuing Paramedic certification.

Fern Creek Fire & EMS accepts applications on a continuous basis even when no positions are currently posted, and reaches out to applicants once a hiring process begins. The department runs its own Fire Academy for entry-level firefighters and partners with Life-Savers Inc. for EMT training, and describes its culture as demanding a high standard of professionalism, teamwork, and leadership from every member.
