Madisonville Fire Department

Madisonville Fire Department has served the city of Madisonville, the seat of Hopkins County in western Kentucky, since 1911. Over more than a century the department has grown into a career combination-service agency covering roughly 161 road miles inside the city limits, maintaining an ISO Class 2 protection rating and a reported average emergency response time under five minutes.

The department fields 69 full-time members split between an Administrative Division (Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Training Captain, Code Enforcement Captain, Fire Prevention Lieutenant, and administrative staff) and a Suppression Division of three Battalion Chiefs, three Captains, twelve Lieutenants, fifteen Engineers, and thirty firefighters, all holding Firefighter II certification or higher. Apparatus includes five engine companies, two ladder trucks, a command unit, a brush truck, a rescue ATV, and a rescue boat, responding to more than 1,700 calls annually, the majority of them EMS-related.

MFD describes its personnel as neighbors and community members first, with a stated department goal of certifying every member as an EMT to give residents the best possible patient care alongside fire suppression, prevention, and public education programs.

The City of Madisonville hires for all city departments, including the Fire Department, through a single online recruiting portal (Paylocity); the city states paper applications are no longer accepted. Fire Department-specific openings, when posted, appear in that same citywide jobs listing.
